Toddler Program

Our Toddler Program is designed to meet the growing physical, social and cognitive needs of young learners. We foster independence by encouraging self-help skills and offering choices. The environment is rich in music, books and dramatic play to help children develop and expand their language acquisition. We embrace this energetic age by planning for gross motor play that includes dancing, climbing and jumping. Children’s social development is nurtured by guiding them in sharing, making friends and communication their needs.

Toddler Curriculum

Toddlers are active, curious and striving for independence. The 2 year old program is structured to nurture these natural characteristics. We enjoy lots of gross motor activities during music and play time to allow toddlers to utilize their amazing energy. They practice important skills such as running, jumping and balancing and learn body awareness through songs and games. The children strengthen their hand-eye coordination by using manipulatives and puzzles.

Two year olds have a need to figure things out on their own. We embrace this curiosity and plan activities that encourage exploration. We offer many opportunities to touch, pour, fill, bang and try things out for themselves.

This program works to foster their independence by creating an environment where they can be self sufficient. For example, having the furniture their size allows children to push in their own chairs, help set up for snack and hang up their own coats. Putting labels on the shelves and containers gives children the understanding where materials belong so that they can clean up successfully. The structure of the day helps children feel secure and helps them to understand routines. Consistency in the classroom schedule gives children the ability to plan ahead and prepare for the next activity which makes for smoother transitions throughout the day.

Language acquisition is an important part of being a toddler. We recognize that children gain speech at their own pace and use songs, finger plays, children’s literature and poetry as a fun way to surround the children in language. Modeling and positive reinforcement is used to empower children to utilize their words and expand their vocabulary.
